Board meetings

The Transport Scotland Board is an advisory body, supporting and advising the Chief Executive. As an advisory body, the Board is not collectively accountable to Ministers for the performance of Transport Scotland, nor is the Chief Executive accountable to the Board. Accountability is vested in the Chief Executive by the Principal Accountable Officer and the Chief Executive is personally accountable to Ministers and Parliament through his role as Transport Scotland's Accountable Officer.

The Board has three tasks or principles that underpin its day to day activity:

  • work together to define future goals and shape of Transport Scotland
  • set the style, character and culture of the organisation, and
  • directing, reinforcing and enabling through being an effective leadership team.

Its three areas of responsibility are:

  • leading strategic direction
  • delivering performance, and
  • managing risk.
