Environmental analysis

TMfS enables to undertake emissions analysis using its purpose built environmental appraisal module (ENEVAL). ENEVAL is quick to run and can be used with the outputs of any transport model.

ENEVAL performs four main types of environmental analysis:

Vehicle exhaust emissions are disaggregated into seven components: CO, HC, NOx, PM10, C, CO2, and CO2(e).

The analysis can be undertaken for either a single future year scenario or to compare model results (eg between a Reference Case and a Do Something). Appraisal can be undertaken at a local, regional or national level and can be output by link, zone, or a user-defined area.

ENEVAL's key strengths are:

  • summarising network-wide environmental impacts of traffic over time
  • allowing quick and easy variations to underlying assumptions (ie fleet split, vehicle efficiency, etc)
  • aggregation of results from individual links up to local, regional, and national level
  • providing inputs to GIS mapping applications
