LATIS (Land Use and Transport Integration in Scotland)

LATIS aims to support robust, evidence-based planning, modelling and appraisal of proposed transport interventions, towards fulfilling the aims of Transport Scotland.

The LATIS service has three key elements:

• A Transport and Land use modelling capability (the Transport Model for Scotland (TMfS) and the Transport, Economic and Land Use Model for Scotland (TELMoS))
• A data collection facility- the LATIS Data Collection Commission (DCC)
• A user engagement programme- a continuous programme of consultations and discussion events on a range of issues, including the development and application of transport and traffic models, the role of integrated transport and land use modelling, how best to support to strategic land use planning and how to improve data quality

The Transport Model for Scotland (version 2007, known as TMfS:07) is a strategic, multi-modal demand and assignment model which allows testing of how transport interventions and/or potential land-use changes may affect demand for transport and the impacts this may have on accessibility, the economy and the environment. It also assists in the prioritisation or scheduling of interventions.

In support of this role, the LATIS team endeavour to understand user needs and to communicate the capabilities and limitations of LATIS models. We also work to promote technical excellence through investment to improve our modelling capabilities over time.
