Concessionary Travel

Concessionary travel gives free or discounted trips on public transport to the people that need it most.

If you're between 16 and 18, over 60, or have a disability you could be eligible for free or subsidised travel to get around Scotland and your local area.

The National Entitlement Card and Young Scot National Entitlement Card gives free or discounted access to most types of public transport.

Young people - 16-18 year olds

Frequently travel by bus or train? You could make big savings with the Young Scot National Entitlement Card – a card that allows you to buy bus and rail tickets at a reduced price.

The card also gives young islanders two free return ferry trips to the mainland every year.

For full-time volunteers the card is valid until your 26th birthday. For more details see the Terms and Conditions

People aged 60+

With the National Entitlement Card Scottish residents aged 60+ can travel for free on most local and national bus services in Scotland.

Your local authority with issue your national entitlement card, contact them directly to apply.

People with a disability

If you have a disability and are resident in Scotland you could be entitled to free local and national bus travel with the National Entitlement Card.

Eligibility and how to apply

The Companion Card allows someone that helps you travel to travel for free too.

People with a visual impairment

Travellers with a visual impairment can also get Scottish National Blind Scheme concessions. The card gives you free rail and ferry travel.
