Work on the multi-million pound M80 project is set to continue next month with the demolition of the North Road overbridge at Condorrat.
Contractor HMC will demolish the existing North Road Bridge over two phases in October 2009. A temporary bridge, known as a Bailey Bridge, is already in place and provides a single carriageway controlled by traffic lights and a footpath.
Essential traffic management will be in place for the safety of road workers and road users and will involve daytime lane closures and overnight road closures. The demolition work to the North Road Bridge will be carried out continuously over two weekends to minimise disruption to commuter traffic.
Phase 1 will get underway after the peak period on Friday 9th October with traffic restrictions expected to be removed before the morning rush hour on Monday 12th October. Phase two starts on Friday 16th October and is expected to be complete by 6am on Monday 19th October.
Michelle Rennie, Head of Branch, Transport Scotland said:
"This is another milestone in the M80 project and we have worked with the DBFO Company, HMG, to deliver this phase with the minimum of disruption to users of the A80."
Hugh O’Connor, HMG General Manager, said:
"We appreciate these works may cause some delays particularly at peak periods and we thank road users for their patience while we carry out these essential works".
Appropriate diversion routes will be in place however, significant delays to the travelling public are anticipated during these periods. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance by visiting the Traffic Scotland website and by taking alternative routes or means of transport where available.
The A80 is an essential part of the trunk road network in central Scotland and one of the most heavily used. This project will complete the missing gap between Stirling and Glasgow bringing real benefits to the surrounding communities and across the central belt as a whole.
