Temporary road closures for M74 Port Eglinton works

26 January 2010

Interlink M74, the joint venture working on the M74 Completion Project, will be undertaking work from Friday 29 January in the Port Eglinton area of Glasgow.

Temporary closure of a number of roads in the area will be required at night whilst the launch of the Port Eglinton Viaduct takes place over the West Coast Main Line and Eglinton Street.

Once the bridge has been slid as far as the temporary trestle adjacent to Eglinton Street, each night before the slide starts, Eglinton Street will be temporarily closed to traffic until the bridge reaches the pier adjacent to Devon Street.

It is anticipated that temporary road closures will be applied between 12 midnight and 6am on a nightly basis from Wednesday 3 February to Saturday 6 February inclusive. These dates may change depending on progress.

"We are endeavouring to minimise the impact of our activities on our neighbours and the travelling public.

"These works, launching a bridge over the West Coast Main Line and Eglinton Street, are a key part of the M74 Completion Project,. We are carrying these major works out at night to minimise disruption both to the railway and to motorists.

"This project is completing a vital motorway link and will reduce congestion around Glasgow as well as provide strategic transport links for industry in the West of Scotland. "
