A series of community safety forums have been organised for residents who live along the route of the new Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine rail link. The project, which will reopen approximately 21km of railway, includes several public and private level crossings including those at Cambus, Kincardine and Waterside in Stirling. The events, developed by Transport Scotland in conjunction with Network Rail, will be held in each of these three areas to ensure the local communities know how to use the level crossings safely and correctly.
The forums will begin at 7pm with informative talks from the Transport Scotland project team and Network Rail. From 7.30pm to 8.30pm residents are invited to drop in and access the various sources of information available on level crossing safety and the new rail link. Representatives from the project team and Network Rail will be on hand to answer any questions on a one to one basis.
Scott Prentice, Senior Project Manager for Transport Scotland explains why the forums are taking place:
“Safety is a priority for the project team and the other organisations involved in the new railway and we are committed to ensuring that as much information is available to the local community as possible. These forums will provide residents with access to extensive advice on using the level crossings safely and will also allow them ask any questions they may have. We would also like to remind residents that the community helpline is also available to provide answers to their queries.”
Ron McAulay, Network Rail Director Scotland, added:
“Network Rail is acutely aware of the risks associated with misuse of level crossings and works on a daily basis with communities across Scotland to help drivers use them responsibly and safely. These events will be a welcome opportunity for Network Rail to engage with road users and pedestrians along the new Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine route and I look forward to hearing their views.”
As part of the project’s commitment to ensuring public safety a number of steps have been taken to ensure members of the local community are fully aware of how to use the crossings correctly and safely. A leaflet drop was undertaken in the areas surrounding the level crossings and this leaflet is also available to download from the project website.
