Borders Railway

The Borders Railway will re-establish passenger railway services for the first time since 1969 from Edinburgh through Midlothian to Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders.

Lothianbridge Viaduct

The railway will deliver major economic and social development opportunities and offer a fast and efficient railway that will be a real alternative to the congested road network. The project is a key part of the Scottish Government’s wider programme of investment in transport infrastructure working towards the sustainable economic growth of Scotland.

Connecting people to jobs, housing (including affordable housing), leisure opportunities and facilities, the Borders Railway will inject a new lease of life into an area that has not been served by a mainline railway for over 40 years.

The railway project will be delivered by Transport Scotland in partnership with City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and Scottish Borders Council and the rail industry.
