Waverley Railway Project Welcomes Consideration Stage Report

22 May 2006

Scottish Borders Council, the Promoter of the Waverley Railway Project and its local authority partners Midlothian Council and City of Edinburgh Council, have welcomed the decision of the Parliamentary Committee to recommend that the Waverley line must be built to the Scottish Borders.

The Waverley Railway (Scotland) Bill Committee issued its Consideration Stage Report yesterday (Tuesday 9th May) in advance of its consideration of Bill amendments, followed by a final vote on the Bill by the whole Parliament. The report is in favour of building the line from Edinburgh to Tweedbank in full and dismisses the possibility of the line terminating in Midlothian or being built in stages. In considering the objections to the Bill, the Committee believes that all necessary efforts have been made to deal with the concerns of objectors.
