Historic Project Takes another Important Step Forward
The clearance of vegetation along the Waverley Railway Line is set to commence in the coming weeks, as the Project takes another important step forward in its development following Royal Assent.
The clearance works are required to enable access to the line for detailed ground investigation and topographical survey works, scheduled to start in the Spring.
De-vegetation is being carried out during the winter period in order to minimise any potential impact on flora and fauna, and also nesting birds.
Topographical surveys will enable important detailed design work to commence in earnest, taking the project a significant step nearer to the procurement and construction phase in line with approval and agreement with Transport Scotland.
David Parker, Leader of Scottish Borders Council, the Promoter of the Waverley Line commented:
"The clearance of vegetation and preparing to embark on detailed design activity in the coming months marks another important step forward for the Project."
"We remain firmly on schedule, and each month we make important strides forward, as we continue with the tendering process, land assembly and advance works activity, with construction set to begin in 2008."
