The Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC) scheme will include the following key elements:

Artist's impression of three bridges
A new 2.7 km cable-stayed bridge with three single column towers, wind shielding and a single deck carrying two general lanes of traffic and hard shoulders in each direction
- Use of the existing Forth Road Bridge as a dedicated public transport corridor for buses, taxis, pedestrians and cyclists
- Motorway standard connecting roads which link to the A90 and M9 in the south, making use of the recently completed M9 spur
- Motorway standard connecting roads linking the M90/A90 in the north, with junction enhancements at Ferrytoll and road widening between those junctions
- Use of modern Intelligent Transport System technology along the full length of the scheme (22km)
- Opportunity for introduction of Light Rapid Transit (LRT) on the Forth Road Bridge if required in the future
