Marine investigations provide information about materials underlying the sea bed to inform decisions about the location and type of foundations used for the bridge crossing.
Glover Site Investigations Ltd and supervising engineers from the Forth Replacement Crossing project team started marine investigations in the Firth of Forth in May using jack up rigs and two barges. The work lasts approximately 10 weeks along the line of the proposed new bridge crossing. Marine notices were posted and and liaison has taken place with the port authorities to ensure shipping channels remain unaffected.
An information leaflet – Environmental Surveys and Ground Investigations: Information for Landowners – provides an overview of the kinds of surveys and investigations that may be necessary and what they entail.
