Caledonian Pottery. Aerial photograph of the Caledonian Pottery factory showing pottery kilns and other factory buildings.
Caledonian Pottery. The waster dump area. The waster dumps consist of pottery wasted during the firing process.
Caledonian Pottery. The pottery kilns in various states of excavation. The Pottery developed a process for heating their kilns with hot gas, and patented this technique. The patent drawings show the kilns in various stages of construction and this links with the archaeological evidence.
Caledonian Pottery. The pottery waster dump. Here we have two archaeologists working in the base of the waster dump. Each tier of the dump is around 1.5 meters in height.
Caledonian Pottery. A closer view of the pottery kilns and flues.
Caledonian Pottery. The Caledonian Pottery made use of rail transport. In this case the railway brought raw materials into the factory (mostly coal).
Caledonian Pottery. This is the coal pit. The railway track in the previous picture terminated here, and the coal was deposited in this store.
Caledonian Pottery. The Pottery Kilns were fired by hot gas. The gas was produced on site, and this picture shows part of the flue taking the hot gas away from the production chamber.
