Rosehill Cottages foundations
Tenements Dig. One of the earliest developments on the site was the Rosehill Cottages. This picture shows the foundations for the southern building, and its circular staircase

Rosehill Cottages staircase
Tenements Dig. The staircases to the rear of the Rosehill Cottages still had the first step in position, as can be seen here.

western area
Tenements Dig. The western area to the rear of Devon Street and MacKinlay Street revealed the tenement walls still stood to about 1.5 meters high in places. The semi-circular brickwork in the centre of the picture shows where one of the rear staircases was positioned.

flooring area
Tenements Dig. Parts of the area under excavation proved to have been altered may times. Here you can see an area of flooring made up with different bricks and flagstones.

early brick culvert
Tenements Dig. Part of our investigation examined land drainage at the tenements. This picture is of an early brick culvert, probably used to stabilise the site before building.
