Dig Diary Week 13 (14 Jan – 18 Jan 2008)

14 February 2008

WEEK 13
14th Jan – 18th Jan

The excavation continues on Structure 6 and the adjacent surfaces. Further investigations of the northern boundary wall and the end structure of the northern range were carried out. The small sunken structure between Structures 2 and 3 of the southern range and the cellar in Structure 2 was also excavated and recorded. A machine was used to excavate the ‘shelter’ and ‘basement’ structure in the vicinity of the southern range in the Lower English Buildings.

In the Iron Foundry area, the cleaning of structures, surfaces and features in the central area has begun. The recording of the eastern features is also underway. In some areas of the Foundry older cobbled surfaces were found beneath more modern tarmac and cement surfaces.
