M74-M8 Eastbound Viaduct

M74-M8 Eastbound Viaduct

The M74/M8 eastbound viaduct crosses over both carriageways of the M8 and Carnoustie Street and will connect the eastbound M8 secondary carriageway (outer braid), in the vicinity of the Paisley road off ramp, to the M74 eastbound carriageway. As a result, eastbound traffic on the M8 will be able to connect freely with the M74.

The four span bridge is supported at each end by reinforced concrete supports (abutments) and at three intermediate locations by twin sloping reinforced concrete columns (piers). The bridge deck (superstructure) is made up of steel box girder beams with reinforced concrete cast in place over the beams. Once the main superstructure is in place, additional works (finishes) are required to complete the bridge parapets, to waterproof the bridge and to lay the road surfacing ready for traffic.

Erection of the steel box girders over the M8 will require overnight closures of the M8.
