Low Wood Junction

Low Wood Junction is located to the west of Auchenkilns Junction and allows eastbound A80 traffic to diverge off to the A8011 and traffic on the A8011 to merge onto the westbound carriageway of the A80.

The A8011 serves Cumbernauld Town Centre to the south and the communities of Eastfield and Balloch to the north. The two-lane merge and diverge slip roads are currently substandard, a situation that is exacerbated by the merging of additional short link roads serving Condorrat onto both slip roads.

As part of the proposed scheme, on the approach to the Low Wood Junction, in the eastbound direction, one lane of the new M80 will be dropped at the exit slip road on to the A8011. The diverge layout will be improved with the inclusion of a diverge auxiliary lane.

In the westbound direction, one lane on the new M80 will be gained at the entry slip road. The substandard short link roads that connect from North Road and Condorrat Ring Road onto the slip roads will be closed for safety reasons.
