What's involved?
Widening approximately 2.5km of road to provide overtaking opportunites in both the north and southbound directions.
Project benefits
The scheme is needed to:
- Improve the operational performance, level service and safety on the A68
- Improve and increase the number of overtaking opportunities
- Incorporate the needs of cyclist and pedestrians
- Maintain the asset value of the A68
- Mitigate environmental impacts of works and to achieve good value for money
Status
The preferred route has been chosen and the scheme is moving through the statutory process. Draft Road Orders have been published.

Impact on travel
Since the proposed work is primarily not concerned with the existing route there will be no disruption to the free flow of traffic for the full length of the works.
Traffic management
Traffic management measures will be in place for the full length of the project.
Environmental impact
Environmental surveys have identified that there is an otter set in the vicinity of the site.

Public Exhibition
