FAQs

airplane photo  Why do we need a rail link to Glasgow Airport?

Road congestion on the M8 is a major problem, making journey times unpredictable. With airport usage set to double, alternative access has to be provided. A rail link will improve access and make it easier for airport workers and people who don't own cars to get to the airport.

Why now?

Studies into a potential airport rail link began over 15 years ago and a preferred route has now been chosen.

Will the local economy be affected?

The rail link is considered important to attract inward investment to the whole of west and south-west Scotland. It will also help to connect up the country and improve transport.

How often will the trains run?

Every 15 minutes.

Can disabled people use the Glasgow Airport Rail Link?

Yes, trains and the airport station will be fully accessible for disabled people.

Where are the stops?

Glasgow Airport Rail Link will call at Glasgow Central, Paisley Gilmour Street and the airport in both directions.

How fast will the trains travel?

The journey time between Glasgow Airport and Central Station will be approximately 16 minutes.

How much will this cost?

In the region of £140 million.

How will the Glasgow Airport Rail Link be funded?

The final details of funding are still to be agreed but, subject to demonstrating the link continues to provide value for money, the Scottish Executive and SPT are committed to delivering a rail link to Glasgow Airport.
