Community Regeneration

The M74 Completion will assist in the regeneration of the south and east of Glasgow, Rutherglen and Cambuslang and provides an opportunity for job creation in areas of high unemployment.

Jobs

Studies show that about 20,000 jobs could be attracted to the area as a result of the improved links this project will bring. During the three year construction period of the motorway this will create 350 jobs.

Clyde Gateway Initiative

The M74 Completion will assist greatly in the delivery of the Clyde Gateway Project.  Set up to tackle the physical and economic decline in areas of Glasgow’s East End and South Lanarkshire, the initiative aims to bring about a lasting transformation in the area, increasing economic activity and job opportunities and developing community wellbeing and culture.

2014 Commonwealth Games

The improved infrastructure the M74 Completion will provide is essential both in preparing for and hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.  Completing the motorway will ensure that athletes and visitors to the city will have access to the excellent transport facilities expected of a host city.

East End Regeneration Route

The East End Regeneration Route complements the M74 Completion and  will provide a transport route from the motorway at Polmadie through the East end of Glasgow to the M80/M8 junction at Provan Road. The project has a number of benefits including relieving congestion, improving pedestrian routes and facilitating the regeneration of derelict land.
