Road Safety

By transferring traffic from local roads onto the M74 the project will have a positive impact on road safety by:

• reducing the number of accidents by between 525 and 700 in the first 20 years after opening
• facilitating the development of strategies to allocate previously congested road space to cyclists and pedestrians
• promoting the introduction of traffic management and traffic calming schemes.
