The upgrade of nearly seven miles of the existing A8 between Baillieston and Newhouse, which forms part of the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements project, will result in a new motorway between Baillieston Interchange and Newhouse Junction. This new length of motorway completes the M8 motorway link between the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The new M8 connects with the existing motorway at Baillieston and will follow a route to the south of the existing A8, on an offline’ alignment, between Baillieston and Eurocentral. Between Eurocentral and Newhouse the new M8 follows the route of the existing A8, on an ‘online’ alignment, and connects with the existing motorway to the east of Newhouse.
The existing A8 will be maintained between Baillieston and Eurocentral, tying in to the A89 just north of Baillieston. New local distributor roads will be provided on each side of the new motorway between Eurocentral and Newhouse.
