Project Benefits

The main benefits of the completion of the M8 are:

• Boosting the economy – reducing the time to transport goods and services and creating more than 8000 jobs by 2030
• Creating better connectivity between the economic centres of Edinburgh and Glasgow
• Creating benefits through journey time savings and accident reduction
• Cutting congestion – improving average vehicle speeds
• Reducing journey times – cutting the journey through the corridor by approximately 20 minutes in peak periods
• Cutting the journey time through Shawhead Junction by up to 20 minutes at peak periods
• Improving road safety
• Providing better access to businesses and communities and better connectivity between regions
• Freeing up road space and developing infrastructure to support sustainable transport initiatives
• Up to 100,000 vehicles a day will enjoy these benefits
• Improving inks for cyclists and pedestrians.
