Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) - Awareness Seminars

The Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) conforms with Best Practice in transport appraisal elsewhere in the UK, Europe and beyond.  It is objective-led and evidence-based, ensuring consideration of the widest possible range of options and avoiding pre-conceived solutions to transport challenges.

A full refresh of STAG was completed in May 2008.  A key message of STAG Refresh is the principle of proportionality, enabling outcomes to be produced more quickly, using fewer resources.

As custodians of STAG, Transport Scotland is pro-active in offering professional advice and assistance to practioners, commissioning bodies and investment decision makers in the principles, methodology and best practice application of transport appraisal.

To this end, Transport Scotland is offering free STAG Awareness Seminars to all interested practitioners – from local authorities and Regional Transport Partnerships, to consultants and developers.  Sessions can be offered at a level suitable to your needs, from an introduction (Level 1) to the concepts and principles of STAG (Level 2), to advanced application of the guidance (Level 3). Further details of each seminar are provided below.

To maximise the value to you and your staff, Transport Scotland staff will be happy to visit your premises to provide the seminar session . Each session consists of a PowerPoint presentation of approximately 20 minutes, followed by a question and answer session and the opportunity for further discussios. It may be a suitable event if your organisation runs lunchtime seminars.

If you would like us to arrange a visit you and provide a STAG Awareness Seminar, please contact us at: Scot-TAG@transportscotland.gsi.gov.uk.
