Subsidised services

The Scottish Government subsidises the principal operators of the Clyde and Hebrides ferry services and services to and from Orkney and Shetland.  These services are provided under public service contracts with the Scottish Government.

The companies providing most of the services are part of the David MacBrayne Limited group which is wholly owned by Scottish ministers, see structure chart.

The following links provide information about the subsidised ferry services:

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited own all of the ferries (with the exception of the MV Muirneag) and most of the ports and harbours necessary for vital ferry services serving the West Coast of Scotland and the Clyde Estuary.  The company is wholly owned by the Scottish Government.
